Today on The Everyday Creative, we are talking about the Qualities of Creative people, how to tell if you have them, and what to do to get them.
Creativity doesn't happen overnight. Give yourself time to develop it. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and enjoy the process of creation.
All very similar concepts, but they are differentiated by timeframe.
Drive is what you need in the beginning - the drive to get out of bed, the initial spark of motivation.
Try goal setting to help with drive.
Discipline is for the part in the middle - the routines, rituals, and schedules.
For help with discipline, check out The Four Tendencies Quiz to learn more about how you respond to expectations.
Grit is for the end. You use grit when the going gets tough, when you're almost to the finish line.
Check out Angela Duckworth's book, Grit, for more info on becoming grittier.
Asking questions leads to creativity. Take the time to realize you have a question.
Fixed versus Growth mindset (Carol Dweck)
Being more observant is a great way to find creative inspiration. It's been said that lucky people are simply more observant.
Many scientific discoveries are made "by accident." The reality is that scientists are looking for one thing but are open-minded and observant enough to realize they've found something else worthwhile.
Playfulness is often associated with children, but playfulness is for adults too.
Everyone has different definitions of play. Consider trying something new, check out a playground, or interact with children more.
The amount of technical knowledge you need depends on your creative endeavor.
During this show segment, we introduce four ways to interact with the material presented: A question to answer, a quest to complete, an aspect of creativity we've noticed this week, and a quote to ponder.
What is your strongest creative quality?
Identify a quality that needs some work and use one of the strategies we talked about to improve it.

"Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something."
- Steve Jobs
