That’s the powerful reframe at the heart of The Everyday Creative Collective. Co-founders, Evie and Emily, challenge us to see creativity as something much deeper in a world that often equates creativity with artistic skill or talent. Creativity is a daily practice of self-expression, reflection, and connection.
If you’ve ever told yourself "I’m not creative," this post is for you.
Most people think creativity is only for artists, performers, or "gifted" individuals. We've grown up with the myth that unless you can paint a masterpiece or write a novel, you're not creative.
But this narrow definition keeps people from recognizing the creative brilliance already woven into their everyday lives—from how they solve problems to how they set the dinner table.
Evie, an art therapist, reframes creativity as an act of expression, connection, and healing. It's not about the product. It's about the process. When we create consciously, we tap into what’s really going on inside—and that process can be incredibly clarifying and restorative.
Creativity isn’t a luxury or extra. It’s a tool. A sacred one, even, as it connects the whole self: mind, body, and intuition or higher self.
Used intentionally, creativity becomes a way to:
Without creativity, life can feel mechanical. With it, we reclaim our wholeness.
Even something as simple as planning your morning or cooking dinner is a creative act—a form of expressing your inner world outwardly.
Early on in her career as an art therapist, Evie, didn't have a consistent art making practice, despite her training. The reason? Time. Space. Perfectionism.
It wasn’t until she began a tiny practice—a single doodle in her planner each day—that she rediscovered the power of creativity firsthand. That simple, non-precious act gave her grounding and reflection. It helped her reconnect to herself.
The lesson? You don’t need to overhaul your life to be creative. You just need to start.
Here’s the framework Evie and Emily developed through their work:
This process works hand-in-hand with three elements of creativity:
Together, they move you from reactive survival mode into intentional creation.
Quick Win: At the end of your day, take a moment to reflect. Jot down a word, draw a quick shape, or write a short sentence that captures your experience. It doesn’t need to be beautiful. It just needs to be real.
If you’re feeling the nudge to reconnect with your inner world, start with the Everyday Creative Method. It’s simple, flexible, and powerful.

We always advocate for creation over consumption but also recognize that it may be necessary, at times, to purchase material things that support your creativity. So, sometimes, we recommend products and services related to creativity and living a creative life. We only recommend products and services that we would use and believe may provide value to you. The Everyday Creative Collective is community-supported (hence, no ads), and when you use our affiliate links (which include Amazon, among others), you help to support our collective goal, which is to bring this knowledge and support right back to you. A symbiotic relationship! This does not affect the price you pay or influence what we recommend
